Urban Tea Rooms (St. James's Market)

Urban Tea Rooms in St James’s, tucked away on a quiet side street moments from the heart of Piccadilly, is the smarter big sister to its shabby chic Soho branch. The sleek café with wall-to-wall windows, industrial fittings, and wooden floors is arranged over the ground floor and a slim-line mezzanine level.

Given its location, you are more likely to find city workers discussing business deals than yummy mummies and children, which is reflected in the less child-friendly set up – there is no baby changing facility and the ground floor seating inside is all high stools along a bar facing out to the street. The menu is pricey - £9.25 for two poached eggs on toast with avocado and £3 for a flat white – but  not unusually high for the area. Allpress coffee and loose leaf teas are sold along with sandwiches, salads and cakes by day and it transforms into a wine and cocktail bar by night, serving tapas and tea cocktails.
