Trade (Essex Rd.)
330 Essex Rd, N1 3PB
Editor's Review
Trade’s second café on Essex Road is the first specialty coffeeshop in the area and is much appreciated by locals and visitors alike, whether arriving for hearty breakfasts, lunch or just for coffee. As with their Commercial Street location, the food offer is a lot more extensive than most cafes with a wide range of breakfast and brunch dishes, buttermilk pancakes, and sandwiches such as a Reuben, Classic Pastrami or a Cuban Club. Their pastrami is renowned – it takes a week to cook (cured for five days, washed, soaked, dried, rubbed and left overnight, finally smoked).
It’s a relaxing spot that manages to be unpretentious, engaging and accessible to a wide variety of people and echoes the original location in its design touches such as the copper piping. Coffee comes from a Black Eagle and is very well made using Origin Coffee. Cakes are home-made and we can vouch for their deliciousness. There are fresh juices and smoothies as well as wines and beers. Situated between Essex Road and Canonbury stations, and right next to the Northchurch Road cycle route to London Fields, it’s a great morning stop for commuters.
