Located just across the street from the East Village’s famed St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery, this outpost of Third Rail Coffee hits all the right style points: Counter Culture Coffee (plus rotating guest roasters) backed by a friendly, skilled staff in a relaxed, aesthetically pleasing environment. Of particular note is the range of pastries available – Colson Patisserie croissants, Doughnut Plant, Blue Sky muffins, Ovenly scones, and Outlaw Granola – and Omanhene, the single-origin Ghanian chocolate used in the hot cocoa and mochas.

Because of limited seating, the baristas sometimes need to enforce a 30-minute maximum on laptop use, but, luckily for those who aren’t already on their way to work or a train, the church has one of the  neighborhood’s nicest spots for sitting and people-watching in front of it.
