Taylor St. Baristas is a fusion of cultures. Conceived in Australia and born in London, its Aussie owners and siblings opened up several locations in the UK before landing this first New York outpost in 2015, a charming Midtown spot for solid coffee and simple, health-forward foods. Upon entry, take note of the disco ball to see that you're in for a coffee party, whose flashy "bartenders" are actually the friendliest of baristas working the insanely stylish Victoria Arduinos in the back. It's takeway only downstairs, but table service upstairs, with plentiful seating for coffee and a chance to truly savor your avocado and vegemite toasts prepared fresh from the open kitchen.

Coffee options are simple and reliable, with a standard espresso-milk menu (almond is the non-dairy option), along with non-coffee beverages like chai, matcha, and fresh juice. When it comes to a pastry pairing, definitely save some room for the Aussie classics, particularly the Lamingtons – pieces of sponge cake dipped in chocolate and rolled in coconut shreds.
