Tar Pit
135 Woodpoint Rd, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Editor's Review
If you thought micro-miniature cafe spaces were only the domain of Manhattan, think again. This super quaint East Williamsburg/Bushwick borderlands boîte serves up sweetly-presented coffees in a tiny, charming yet funky wedge of a space – which surprisingly finds room for several seats (take a breather on the brocade loveseat) and a bathroom. A few minimal yet tasteful details give this otherwise simple space a fashionable interior.
Upon entry, a massive drawing of a Tokyo motorcyclist sipping 'spro (courtesy of illustrator Jonathan Bartlett) makes for a bright greeting, along with stylish siphons brewing Kyoto-style iced coffees hanging on the opposite wall (for a sweeter, less citrusy cold brew experience, this is a must-have). Plowshares Coffee Roasters provide a fresh change of pace in the world of New York cafes, fueling espresso-milk beverages alongside some pour-over (after 2pm) and cold brew options. Unique to Tar Pit, try a "muddy waters" to get two parts cold brew and one part chai.
