Stumptown Coffee Roasters — West 8th
30 W 8th Street, New York, NY 10011
Editor's Review
Breaking the NYC mold on various fronts is Stumptown's second Manhattan café, an interior gem that seamlessly combines the modern wilderness accents of Portland design with more posh elements of New York. This highly-funded, immaculate Greenwich Village café is one of the city's most beautiful coffee spots: a mixture of brass and deco trimmings, hardwood, mosaic-tiled tones, and globe lighting. Formerly the Eighth Street Bookstore, this space once played home to literary greats like Jack Kerouac and Ginsberg shuffling through the aisles.
You'll find a surprising amount of comfortable seating here, as well as Wi-Fi, and even a restroom – uncommon features for Manhattan cafes of quality. Visit the cafe's impressive training lab on Tuesdays for public cuppings, or simply take a peek through the windows to see their impressive stock of brewing equipment.
While the hot coffee menu is simple and reliable, their cold drink menu thrives. Stumptown knows cold brew best, offering myriad choices on both draft and nitro, plus a seasonal sweet drink to satisfy a craving. Treats are from local pastry heroes like Doughnut Plant and Ovenly, and non-dairy options include soy and almond.
