SlowMov

Bright, airy, full of foliage and beautifully tiled flooring, SlowMov is the essence of Catalan relaxation. Serving their own in-house roast (the Giesen roaster is visible from the shop floor and the green beans are sourced from Parisian roasters La Coutume, where joint owner Carmen used to work), the emphasis here is good coffee, very well-made, and damn the hurry. It's a lovely space, though, so a slight wait now and again can be forgiven. The staff are friendly and seem to speak at least three languages, so tourists will feel at ease here too.

A central island is surrounded by bar stools, and there is bar seating around the walls as well, with magazines available to browse. The selection of coffee and brew equipment for sale is excellent as well. Set on the north-east corner of Barcelona's trendy Gracia area, SlowMov is well worth the trip (it's about a 30 minute walk from the centre of the city), and there are plenty of good shops and restaurants nearby if you don't make the journey simply for the coffee.
