Reunion Island Coffee Bar
385 Roncesvalles Ave, Toronto, ON M6R 2N1, Canada
Editor's Review
Roncesvalles Village is simply one of the best stretches of the city to appreciate local food and drink. Without the huge, modern condo buildings nowadays present in much of Toronto, the neighbourhood has remained true to the city’s architectural and cultural history. The long walk up Roncesvalles Ave is full of small businesses and boutique restaurants and bars that help foster a proud local following. There is definitely no shortage of coffee available, but Reunion Island stands out as one of the best.
The owners of Reunion Island Coffee Roasters have been roasting for over 20 years and are now based out of their warehouse space in nearby Oakville, ON. In the summer of 2015 they realized a dream to open up their own flagship café with the goal to create a testing ground for their coffee, but also to represent their product and brand in their own way.
Expertly roasted coffee is a given, but they have managed to create a drink program to match. A Modbar and two Nuova Simonelli Mythos grinders make sure the espresso is on point and a Mahlkönig EK43 prepares the coffee to be brewed on V60 for pour-overs. In a relatively recent development, the café has partnered with Toronto restaurant The Federal to create Gold Standard, a sandwich shop specializing in Detroit-style burgers. Food can be ordered in the café and brought to your table or enjoyed outside at their takeaway window.
