Plug Nickel
7 Peel St, Collingwood VIC 3066, Australia
Editor's Review
Plug Nickel’s homely set up in Collingwood presents attention to detail across every aspect of their offerings, giving followers a distinguished selection of quality products not easy to find in Melbourne. One of few serving ONA coffee from Canberra (from World Barista Champion Sasa Sestic), quality exudes in everything they produce with taste at the forefront.
Seasonal signature drinks here are given the same respect and treatment as the exceptional coffee, producing results such as a sparkling pineapple lime cascara (coffee cherry husks) using only natural ingredients and many more. Cold Brew is slow brewed to achieve its full potential. They also get to play around with almost anything on a carbonated tap.
A well designed food menu compliments the creativity and effort put into the brews. The place, executed to feel lived-in, definitely carries that through from the paint spotted floor, exposed brick architrave and wooden pylons on the ceiling leading up the fan. The hallway to the bathroom is also a sight. Milk alternatives here include house made almond and macadamia milk, sweet balanced and creamy texture which accentuates the coffee notes. Minimal seating and a take-away window emphasise speed and convenience but they’re always up for a chat.
