Peloton Espresso
76 Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 1JB, UK
Editor's Review
Peloton Espresso is a short walk up the Cowley Road, the more fun, footloose part of town. As might be inferred from the name, the venue has a strong cycling theme, with a lovely array of prints, posters, and even a vintage OUCC jersey in a frame. The café certainly caters for a wider set than the two-wheeled, though – there's a steady stream of locals and students too, and it goes a long way to creating a fun, vibrant atmosphere. This augmented by the chatty, friendly staff. Coffee comes Birmingham's Quarter Horse, who used to own the café as well, and filters are rotated and available via V60, pour over, and Aeropress, as well as batch brewed from a dripper.
The venue is reasonably sized, with plenty of seating around the outer wall, a large area to congregate if you're waiting for a take-out, and a scattering of tables on te road itself. There's also a rather bijou garden area out the back that catches the sun most of the day. It might not be the slickest, most polished café ever, but Peloton is warm, welcoming, and serves up an excellent cup of coffee.
