Ostara Cafe
52 Coburg St, Edinburgh EH6 6HJ, UK
Editor's Review
The Water of Leith runs from the Firth of Forth all the way through Edinburgh and out towards the Pentlands, and walking it is one of the nicest things the city has to offer, a true feeling of the countryside in amidst the noise. Near its end down in Leith, a path stretches up and onto Coburg Street, just off Great Junction Street, and almost directly opposite sits this charming, hidden cafe. Ostara is one of Leith's best places for brunch. Their menu is heavy on vegetarian and vegan options, and changes with the seasons. You'll find Tobermory Smoked Sea-Trout, proper Scottish porridge, incredible baked eggs, and daily specials in soups, sandwiches and frittattas. Their coffee is about as local as you could get too, coming from Williams & Johnson, about a five minute walk away on Commercial Street.
Ostara also do a good amount of community outreach, hosting evening meals for vulnerable adults and other fundraising events. Any community would be lucky to have them on their doorstep. A perfect place to head for sufficient ballast before traipsing along the river.
