Origin Coffee (Scoresby St)

Shortly after opening, the latest Origin café can be found nuzzling under Southwark's railway arches near a sign advertising "quirky retail opportunities".  Taking up a whole arch, the only quirky thing about this polished, professional shop is the intermittent rumbling of a train passing overhead.

Scoresby Street is a showcase opportunity for Origin.  The purposefully neglected concrete floor is the only bit of rustic here, with the rest of the fit out supported by metro tiles, handmade stools and an impressive single board ash communal table. A lot of thought has gone into the design here, and tile and timber have come together with great success.  With the open hatch kitchen and brunch powered, re-visited food offer, though, make no mistake: you're not just in a coffee shop, you're in a destination.

The coffee is, as you'd expect with Origin's roots, very good.  Espresso is pulled on the UK's first installed La Marzocco AV Modbar (4 group heads, think they're aiming for a commuter rush), filter comes from a batch brewer or there's a dedicated brew bar backed up by Kinto pour over (not overtly advertised, but if you ask you should get a friendly response).

This is a great place to spend time, and you will struggle to get a coffee here that doesn't impress you.
