Ninth Street Espresso — Midtown
109 E. 56th St., New York, NY 10022
Editor's Review
Ninth Street Espresso’s Midtown East location is like the East Village-based chain’s kid who went off to private school, set as it is adjacent to the ground floor of the iconic Lombardy Hotel.
Apart from its swank digs, this classy-looking spot – black-and-white floor tiles, a polished-granite counter stretching around the perimeter, and a vintage art-deco vibe in general – offers everything you’d expect from Ninth Street: some of the city’s finest coffee, an ultra-simplified menu, and pastries from Balthazar, Blue Sky, and The Good Batch. One key thing you won’t find: WiFi. Don’t let it bother you though; the counters run along a stretch of windows offering a great view of 56th Street and its pedestrians and shoppers.
(Note: Enter from the street, not the hotel, and watch the small step at the entrance.)
