Neo Coffee Bar
100-161 Frederick St, Toronto, ON M5A 4P1, Canada
Editor's Review
Any conversation asking where to find the best coffee in Toronto will inevitably include discussion of Neo Coffee Bar. Just outside of downtown and around the corner from the St. Lawrence Market, this Japanese-inspired café is presenting coffee at a very high level. The La Marzocco Strada machine pulls incredible shots of their rotating feature espresso, as well as their everyday Neo blend roasted by de Mello Palhetta Coffee Roasters. A pour-over bar serves up a selection of de Mello coffee and other roasteries throughout the year, currently Onibus from Tokyo, Japan.
As if the coffee being served here wasn’t enough, Neo also offers an incredible assortment of handmade cakes, pastries and sandwiches made in-house. Specifically, they have become particularly well known for their unique roll cakes. Their kitchen is directly behind the coffee bar and the glass enclosure allows for a beautiful and transparent spectacle.
The space is exceptional in its own right. The café was clearly built around the bones of the building with the retail shelf curling around a large cement wall in the middle of the space. Booth seating is tucked into the back, but no matter where you find yourself sitting, you can be sure you will be back again soon.
