Monk Bodhi Dharma
Rear, 202 Carlisle St, Balaclava VIC 3183, Australia
Editor's Review
Tucked away in the rear of a car park sits the brick-cabin-like micro roastery and cafe Monk Bhodi Dharma – a circular painting of a monk confirms your find. A massive communal table in the exposed brick and washed board venue advocates interaction, discussion, and provides some front row seats to catch some roasting in action if timed well. The small space also boasts some seats near the bar and smaller tables if you just want some space to enjoy from your options of four different single origin espresso (even as a milky drink), and a similar variety for filter, either via batch or v60 pour over.
MBD often rotate through numerous options and like Admiral Cheng Ho, they're one of the only places in Melbourne that acquire green coffee from NinetyPLus Coffee. Prices may vary depending on rarity of coffee but you’re sure to get quality with everything produced. There's a full veggie and vegan menu that has sparked some really creative and intriguing dishes using local and organic ingredients which are certainly worth trying. Ticketed degustation dinner evenings are held Friday evenings and also vary according to sourced ingredients.
