Marlow and Sons
81 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11211
Editor's Review
Marlow and Sons is a rustic, farm-focused upscale eatery from Brooklyn dining mastermind Andrew Tarlow, who also owns several restaurants in the city like Achilles Heel and Reynard's (another restaurant with an unsuspectingly sharp coffee program). With an emphasis on East Coast oysters and a massive variety of wines, the restaurant's front mercantile and cafe area serves as a charming and well-lit welcome in comparison to its romantic dim restaurant and bar just beyond.
Marlow and Sons' coffee bar plays with a rustic maritime theme, whose white wood-paneled walls make you feel as if you're in someone's kitchen waiting for oysters in Maine. Shelves are stacked with fun culinary-themed retail goodies and cookbooks, and bags of coffee from renowned roasters like MadCap and George Howell are available for purchase. While a coffee menu isn't listed, expect to find your standard set of espresso and filter drinks here, which pair nicely with decadent housemade pastry – or take a closer look at the breakfast and lunch menus (don't miss the upscale egg on a biscuit), which are both available in the cafe as well as the back room to enjoy along with your coffee.
