Lever & Bloom Coffee
Byng Place, Bloomsbury, WC1E 7JJ
Editor's Review
We were delighted to come across Lever & Bloom’s coffee stand recently in Bloomsbury and were glad we tried the coffee as it was well made indeed. Byng Place in Bloomsbury is a lovely setting outside John Raphael Rodrigues Brandon’s impressive gothic revival Church of Christ the King and deep in the heart of academic Bloomsbury by UCL and SOAS. There are a few tables around to enjoy a drink from Mounir and Elena’s cute ‘tuk tuk’–style coffee van.
It’s a family business started in July 2015. As for the name chose ‘lever’ to showcase their beautiful and reliable lever espresso machine (Izzo Pompei) and ‘bloom’ to point out that there will be alternative brewing methods on the menu (V60, Aeropress, filter coffee) eventually once their coffee shop is up and running).
Currently coffee is espresso based drinks only (sourced from Climpson & Sons) with lots of sweet treats such as artisan viennoiseries from Little Bread Pedlar, traybakes from Cakesmiths and homemade cinnamon rolls. Birchall teas and Mofo Deluxe drinking chocolate are also on offer. Elena bakes the kanelbullar as well as banana bread, matcha cookies, alfajores with dulce de leche and more. Lever and Bloom open regularly on weekdays and some occasional sunny Saturdays too.
