Editor's Review
Hale Coffee Roasters has managed to turn a raw, industrial location in the corner of the Junction Triangle into an incredibly diverse multifunctional space. After walking in the door of the café, past an eye-catching wall full of beans, brewing equipment and retail items, you move towards the service bar and attempt to order a drink while you take in the entire space. In the back corner there is a cupping table and training area surrounded by comfortable seating and artwork hanging from the walls. The main area is filled with tables, chairs and bench seating and maybe the most prominent design element in the café: the wood cubes that cover the ceiling all around the room.
While you sit and enjoy your coffee you then notice the foosball table and realise it is separating the back third of the room that is actually a fully functioning roasting and production facility. Two Diedrich roasters sit prominently amongst canvas sacks of green bean and their packing line. A garage door not only lets in heaps of natural light, but also allows the roastery to operate seamlessly without interrupting the café. Last but not least, Muskoka chairs and garden scenery create a backyard feel for their front patio, so you will just have to accept it will take a few visits to enjoy everything this shop has to offer.
