The new Five Elephant, in the heart of Mitte, is a master class in café design. Refreshingly light and attractive, nothing is revealed to the customer other than the friendly baristas, gorgeous cakes and slick modbar espresso taps.

The terrazzo marble coffee bar gives a fun, dynamic postmodern feel which, if you are someone who has visited a number of specialty coffee bars over the years, causes immediate excitement as you are witnessing something new. Finally! No more drift wood. Forget the plywood. Ignore the poured concrete. It’s a declaration of a new mature aesthetic for specialty coffee - albeit not one that all café owners can afford.

Nevertheless, originality and beauty are the name of the game and the little touches here and there are a pleasure to notice. As you’d expect from Five Elephant, the coffee is up there with the best in Europe.
