Ergon Deli and Cafe

Editor's Review
Ergon is a Greek word meaning vocation and Ergon Deli and Café have a passion for the work of serving artisan food and drink and work with small producers from Greece and elsewhere. Brothers Thomas and Giorgos Douzis opened their first store in Thessaloniki where their grandfather owned a grocery store. We first fell in love with Ergon’s food, drink and charm at their pop-up on Regent Street but their new home is this permanent location just off Oxford Street, close to the Apple Store.
Ergon serve Taf coffee in a variety of forms – you can have the usual espresso based drinks but also the Greek specialities such as Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino, if you’ve never tried these, you should. Of course there is also Greek coffee (briki, ibrik). We usually order a v60 filter. Taf is Greece’s top speciality roaster who collaborate with farms and build direct relationships with coffee producers.
Of course Ergon is also about the food – which never disappoints and utilises producers from independent producers. It’s a great relaxed, friendly spot for lunch or just a pastry with coffee. Giorgos (George) is often seen in the store and is such a humble and friendly character we were surprised to discover he was the co-owner and founder. Head barista Theo takes his coffee seriously and will look after you when you visit.
