Early Bird Coffee and Kitchen
181 Bay St, Toronto, ON M5J 2T3, Canada
Editor's Review
Although just a few steps away from Toronto’s Union Station, don’t blindly trust your map when trying to find this new location of the popular Queen St West café. Located underground as part of the city’s extensive PATH network, this is one of the best possible places for a coffee on the way to work or as an excuse for an extended break.
A constant stream of people flow by this surprisingly spacious room. Seating is tucked into a corner of the space, which prevents the overcrowdedness and chaos of the adjoining hallway and acts as a reprieve to enjoy a coffee. A customized white Linea PB sits next to a matching set of Mahlkönig grinders. The colourful menu is displayed by a projector on the back wall and provides the details of their coffee and food menus. Early Bird is a multi-roaster serving an ever-changing selection of coffee from local and international roasteries, including a single origin Guatemalan coffee roasted exclusively for Early Bird by local sweethearts Pilot Coffee Roasters, who also supply of the nitro cold brew available on tap. The food is beautifully presented and much more delicious and substantial that one might expect from a concourse coffee shop. Who said commutes had to be a bad thing?
