Editor's Review
With the growing success of the specialty coffee industry, for better or for worse, there seem to be many stylistic similarities from shop to shop. But every once in a while, you experience a space that is so unique that it makes you stop and appreciate its beauty. Dineen Coffee Company has created such a space at Yonge and Temperance.
It certainly doesn’t hurt when your shop is located in a heritage building that was built in 1897, but Dineen has done a wonderful job modernizing the space. As a part of a renovation project that took place in 2012, the entire structure received a major update, which allowed them to customize the café to become the stunning visual that it is today. The hand-painted tiles that spread across the entire floor were imported from South America, ornate black pillars show off high ceilings and an incredible chandelier dominates the space over the bar. As well, the façade does a wonderful job of blending in with the building's architecture and with their choice of colours, typography, and lighting, the space is a true ode to the city’s history.
And the coffee setup's no slouch either: two bright yellow La Marzocco Stradas gleam in stark contrast to the otherwise sophisticated space and add a modern touch. Their coffee is prepared and sold under Dineen’s name, but roasted by local company EH Coffee.
