Culture Espresso — 36 Street
247 W 36th Street, New York, NY 10018
Editor's Review
Culture Espresso has quietly been staking a claim in the West 30's, and this Penn-Station-proximal spot presents a diamond in the rough and chainy landscape – surely a confusion to some, a lifesaving oasis to others. Serving tempting, carefully prepared coffee drinks and baked goods within stylish, yet somehow soothing confines, Culture 36 is destined to make a lot of people late for trains. They are known for truly great homemade chocolate chip and oatmeal cranberry cookies, and they feature a nice selection from other premium bakeries like Ceci-Cela, Blue Sky Bakery, Ovenly (including gluten free options), Dough Doughnuts, Corner Café, and Magpies.
All three Culture shops feature Heart Coffee Roasters these days, occasionally mixed up with a limited featured roast. Drinks are always well-thought-out and well-prepared, by a hip yet friendly crew who clearly do not fit in with this tourist and business neighborhood, yet somehow, it all works. In a part of town known for a constant, faceless hustle and bustle, rarely has there been a good reason to slow down here, but Culture is making a strong case for it.
