Coffee Roastery Lab Sheung Wan
1-3 Mercer St, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong
Editor's Review
Opened in February 2017, Coffee Roastery Lab serves as the experimental arm of 18 GRAMS – a Hong Kong premier espresso cafe – to try out new roasting techniques and coffee receipes for coffee lovers. This bold mindset to experiment and venture forth into the unknown pays homage to the rich heritage of its location – Sheung Wan. In the mid-1800s when Hong Kong was part of the Britain, local businessmen in the area took the risk and ventured into the facilitation of trade between the East and West. With success, these local merchants built a reputation for themselves and formed a trading group known as Nam Pak Hong ( 南 北 行 ), literally, an association that sells products available in North and South China. A careful observation of Coffee Roastery Lab's metal gates would lead one to discover the beautifully carved name of Nam Pak Hong in Chinese.
In line with its push for innovation, Coffee Roastery Lab has coffee beer available for sales, offering a new way for coffee lovers to enjoy their coffee brew. Coffee in its more traditional forms comes courtesy of the in-house roastery and can be enjoyed in a wide variety of ways, including Clever Cup, Aeropress, and syphon. It is definitely an exciting place to look out for.
