Citizens of Chelsea is a well-situated destination for before (or after) you hit the Whitney, the High Line, or an art-gallery crawl. Run by Australian ex-pats, the high-ceilinged, plant-bedecked corner spot breezes along in the spirit of Melbourne’s coffee scene, with light and healthy food served alongside a range of coffee drinks (including, of course, an on-point flat white).

The breakfast is all-day, with savory and sweet options (from salmon eggs to Belgian waffle) and the kitchen adds some choice options in the afternoon. Locally roasted beans are furnished by Unity coffee, a descendent of the former Pushcart brand, to which this cafe is somehow still related. The presence of beer, wine and a number of cocktails (including a few fruity prosecco drinks) help make Citizens the right stop at any time of day, and the patented Aussie hospitality puts it all over the top.
