Boxcar Social
235 Queens Quay W, Toronto, ON M5J 2G8, Canada
Editor's Review
Toronto’s waterfront has always been a contentious issue with locals. Seemingly unending development and a lack of culture and public places is an ongoing rift between locals and city officials. However, when a business like Boxcar Social moves into a prized piece of the harbourfront, locals can take a moment to celebrate.
In partnership with the Harbourfront Centre, Boxcar has taken on a huge space located directly next to the Natrel Pond, Harbourfront Centre Concert Stage and Lake Ontario. The views from their patio are stunning, and with the heating lamps, can be enjoyed almost all year round. One can watch boats pass by in the summertime and skaters slide around the ice in the winter. You could be excused for barely noticing the inside due to all of the outdoor attractions, but you would be remiss to not enjoy the incredible café space as well.
The reclaimed wooden bar includes their coffee set up along with multiple beer taps and a fully stocked wall of wine and liquor. Harvest tables fill the first portion of the industrial space covered in edison bulb lighting and then lead to the back where booth and high-top seating can be found. With the extensive food menu available all day long, right alongside their whiskey, beer and wine programs, it’s hard to find an excuse not to come to what has now become one of the best portions of the waterfront.
