Abraço
81 East 7th St., NY, NY 10003
Editor's Review
The important things to know first: Abraço only takes cash – no credit cards, period; there is no tea, decaf, alternative milk or Wi-Fi; and, what's more, signs specifically declare NO LAPTOPS. If you’re okay with all that, good, because cult-favorite Abraço is one of the city’s best coffee shops.
After relocating from a take-out-only nook across the street in 2016, Abraço has really blossomed: soft-white and rose-colored lights illuminate a wide floor of seating, including some standing tables, a few secluded corners and one giant family-size table. The house-roasted coffee is consistently excellent and the bakery in back (you can see right in!) is as good as you’ll find in a cafe: the olive-oil cake is worth the trip on its own, and each day provides a selection of sweet and savory (the egg sandwich is a winner). A turntable and a shelf of Brazilian and jazz records complete the scene.
