George and Lennie
277 Golden Gate Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102, USA
Editor's Review
George & Lennie in the Civic Center/Tenderloin neighborhood is an artist-owned, mixed-use cafe. The artist vibes are immediately apparent upon entering the space. Underneath the DIY tin drop ceiling, the angular coffee bar and kitchen are in open view. Distributed around the cafe are large photography prints, art works, and a large-format printer that any customer can pay to use. The art is constantly changing, so your next visit may not look the same as today’s.
With a menu board that proclaims “you can have whatever you like,” it stands to reason that drink offerings vary from a regular cup of Ritual Coffee to butter coffee. The kitchen creates hot breakfast items, sources pastries, and offers fun bites like a “Press 12 Duck Fat Chex Mix.” On the weekdays, Happy Hour includes beer and wine offerings, plus rotating appetizers.
While the space is small and seating is limited, the small business stands out as a neighborhood spot with artistic charm.
