Coleman Coffee Roasters
20 Lower Marsh, Waterloo, SE1 7RJ
Editor's Review
Jack Coleman has been longer in the coffee business than most. He established Coleman Coffee Roasters in Bermondsey in 2010 on a shoestring budget and has long since delighted weekend visitors to Spa Terminus’ weekend market stalls with his straightforward approach to coffee. Jack has been on the London coffee scene since before 2007 when he helped invent the stumpy at Fernandez and Wells after a stint at Monmouth. This, his new venture, is hands down one of the prettiest cafes in London.
There are large windows letting in ample light and a delightful little coffee garden out back. The place has a somewhat continental feel with the large counter, elegant grocery store style stacks of coffee beans, Greek biscuits, homemade lemonade cordial and Vichy Catalan water. Generally you get the feeling Jack sells what he likes and that makes for a unique and special offer. South American coffee roasted by Coleman, Ucal chocolate milk, fresh orange juice, and hot Staffordshire oatcakes with savoury fillings.
There’s a delightful calming, neighbourhood feel. Coffee is well made and served in glass cups. There are some beautiful ceramics on sale too. At a time when most coffee shops copy each other, Coleman Coffee Roasters is confident to be different. And we applaud that!
