The World AeroPress Championships: Jason Chuah
Jason Chuah, the Malaysian AeroPress Champion, is the next World AeroPress Champion to answer our questions. A coffee enthusiast rather than someone who works in coffee, we are very interested to see how he does!
Why did you choose to enter the AeroPress Championship?
In my honest opinion, I like that it's the competition with the fewest barriers to entry. It has minimal rules and/or protocols and I also think it's the most fair (since everyone can only use the same brewing device and the same coffee).
What’s your favourite way to make coffee (other than AeroPress of course!)?
Kalita wave.
What led you to using the AeroPress?
It's portable, unbreakable, easy to clean, and I like immersion methods in general.
Which grinder will you use for the competition and why?
I'll go with a Comandante hand grinder for consistency and portability.
How did you get in to the coffee industry?
Technically, I'm not, and have never been, in the coffee industry (if referring to working in food and beverage). I'm just a regular coffee enthusiast - a home brewer if you may.
What are you most excited about in coffee?
I'm really amazed by the range of flavours that can exist in a single coffee varietal, let alone the possibilities that are revealed through different processing and brewing methods etc.
