Best Coffee's roastery guide is a compilation of the very best, tried & tested coffee roasters from around the world. We’ve hand-selected a small collection of amazing coffees for you to sample. Not all coffees are created equal, and not all coffees make it into our shop. So we’re starting a series of articles shining a light on our chosen roasteries to explain why we picked them for your drinking delight.

Where: The roastery is based in Helston, Cornwall. Origin also have cafes dotted about in Cornwall & London

Who: Origin was founded, and is owned by Tom Sobey who worked closely for his father’s coffee business growing up & was inspired by this, & experiencing Australia’s progressive coffee culture, so start his own business.

Since when: 2004

Why: Origin have been at the forefront of specialty coffee in the UK for the last 15 years. Their dedication to quality, relationships and curiosity mean that although they are one of the longest standing third-wave roasters in this country; they still full of fresh ideas and enthusiasm.

What’s the story: B-Corp company Origin have a rich heritage of coffee-industry passion, knowledge and skill amongst their team. They believe in building relationships with growers and importers, visiting farms as often as they can. Their approach to roasting is powered by ‘passion, precision, curiosity and caffeine.’

Sustainability credentials:

Origin nurture long-standing relationships with estates and specialty exporters & have coffee transparency reports available for viewing on their website. They pay all their producers above the Fairtrade base price.

They are B-Corp certified which means they have passed rigorous sustainability assessments to demonstrate they are a business which chooses to do good. Their outer packaging is fully home-recyclable & their aluminium lined bags can be recycled with First Mile. The roastery releases yearly environmental impact reports, complete with goals to reduce energy consumption and emissions in the near future.

Los Altos farm and Origin have a relationship spanning over 10 years. In the cup, this coffee is approachable, familiar and full of flavour: a balanced coffee with subtle acidity, full body and a creamy finish with tasting notes of roasted almond, chocolate and brown sugar.

These plastic-free Brazilian capsules from Origin are for fans of a simple, easy-to-drink cup of coffee. This coffee is sweet, intense and clean with low acidity. Tasting notes of dark sugar and chocolate.
