Coffee Roaster Introduction: Horsham Coffee Roaster
Best Coffee's roastery guide is a compilation of the very best, tried & tested coffee roasters from around the world. We’ve hand-selected a small collection of amazing coffees for you to sample. Not all coffees are created equal, and not all coffees make it into our shop. So we’re starting a series of articles shining a light on our chosen roasteries to explain why we picked them for your drinking delight.
Horsham Coffee Roaster
Where: Sussex
Who: A small team of coffee-obsessed people, headed up by Co-founders Bradley and Amelia.
Since when: 2012
Why: We’re excited to partner with Horsham Coffee Roaster due to their unending dedication to producing the best coffees. They carefully source high-grade specialty coffee, some of which exclusive to their roastery. They prefer to roast light-medium profiles to give each coffee a chance to show its true characteristics.
What’s the story: Starting with a kg roaster in their garage Horsham Coffee looked to fill the gap for specialty coffee in Sussex. Selling from a market stall 2 days a week, they have since moved twice to accommodate their growing operation. They now co-run 2 coffee shops, as well as roasting and supplying coffee all over the UK to both retail and wholesale customers.
Sustainability credentials:
Horsham Coffee roast on a Loring which uses 60-70% less power than traditional roasters. They use electric vehicles at their roaster and carbon-offset the emissions from deliveries as well as using exclusively recyclable packaging.
They’re signed up to donate to environmental and community initiatives such as FareShare Sussex and One Tree Planted to ensure their company has a positive impact.
When sourcing coffee they place a big focus on tracing the financial journey of the coffee, making sure farmers have been paid fairly, and above Fairtrade rates. They have long-standing buying relationships with estates and specialty exporters too.
Our favourite coffees:
Workhorse espresso blend - The name workhorse refers to this adaptable coffee’s ability to work in a variety of situations. Suitable for all brew methods, with and without milk, this well-balanced blend is light, bright and juicy. Tasting notes of orange, nuts and chocolate.
Bwishaza Lot 6 - The Bwishaza co-operative is located close to lake Kivu, Rwanda. They specialise in clean, bright, juicy washed coffees. This one makes a great filter, tasting good with or without milk. Tasting notes of orange, caramel and black tea.
